Congratulations North Long Beach Panthers Football and CheerPosted on: 2007-12-11This year the North Long Beach Black Panthers Jr. Midget Football and Jr. Pee Wee Black Cheer Team earned the opportunity to compete at the Disney Complex in Orlando Florida. The team worked very hard all year long to win the Division II National Championship with an undefeated reputation. As a parent and a supporter of the team I would like to congratulate the team on their success. My two boys have been apart of the team since they were seven and eight years of age. The President Tammy & Eugene Beaver, coaches, team moms, and the board members have worked very hard to keep the team organized, affordable, and positive for all the children in the community.
Our team believes and practices the goals that are set forth on the Pop Warner web site “Kids compete with kids of similar age and size. Pop Warner is the ONLY youth football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict AGE & WEIGHT MATRIX that reduces the risk and reality of injuries.
Pop Warner exists to use football, cheerleading, dance and a respect for education to develop strong, smart, responsible, healthy young men and women. We give them experiences that build their appreciation for and understanding of leadership, teamwork, and discipline.
While individual statistics may be more common, particularly among older football players, Pop Warner only recognizes the athletic accomplishments of the team, not the individual. We don't track personal tallies of touchdowns or yards rushing per game. We don't count sacks or blocked kicks. We applaud the athletic efforts of the team to reinforce the importance of teamwork, with each member.
We don't try to build stars. We don't want to over-inflate a young ego, nor do we want to risk injuring the self-esteem of a young person. Whether our kids have good days or bad, they are still an integral part of our team…and always will be.”
Although the Jr. Midget Football team was able to travel through donations from various fund raisers, it is unfortunate that we were not able to raise enough monies to cover all the expenses. We like to honor the Jr. Pee Wee Black Cheer and Dance Team because they had the opportunity to go to Florida in compete and win the National Cheer and Dance Competition, unfortunately; they were not able to attend this event that they worked so hard for because lack of travel funds.
I walked with and watched the kids pull together and unite as one to reach out to the community for support. The kids knocked on doors of many of our local residents in North Long Beach and Los Angeles area asking for donations and support. Many of the residents participated in our quarter for your thought campaign that contributed to about $350.00. We like to Thank you North Long Beach Residents for all your support.

Community Emergency NotificationPosted on: 2007-12-05About Long Beach's Community Emergency Notification System
Long Beach has implemented a Community Emergency Notification System. It allows the City to rapidly notify residents and businesses by telephone. In the event of an emergency, an operator using the system can identify the affected neighborhood or region of the city and record a message that describes the situation. The system will automatically call listed and unlisted telephone numbers within the affected area and deliver the recorded message. If phone lines are busy, the system will attempt to redial those numbers to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine.
